Denmark divides visa-required countries into 5 main groups, based on the Danish Immigration Service’s general assessment of the risk that a citizen of that country may overstay or attempt to remain in Denmark or the Schengen Area beyond their visa's validity. This grouping is only a guideline — every application is still assessed case-by-case — but it does shape what the Immigration Service expects from your documentation.
The Philippines is classified under Main Group 3, described by the Danish Immigration Service as countries whose citizens present a significant risk of illegal immigration to Denmark or another Schengen country. Other countries in Group 3 include India, Vietnam, Türkiye, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Morocco, among others.
What this means in practice: Citizens of Group 1 countries can generally be granted a visa for purely tourist visits even without a host in Denmark. Filipino applicants, as citizens of a Group 3 country, are, as a starting point, normally expected to have a host in Denmark in order to be granted a visa — including for what would otherwise be considered a "tourism" trip. A pure, unhosted holiday application (e.g., just hotel bookings, no connection to anyone in Denmark) is assessed against a higher bar for Group 3 applicants than it would be for a Group 1 applicant.

If you are a Filipino applicant, a visa will normally be granted if your host in Denmark is one of the following:
- Spouse
- Cohabiting partner or boyfriend/girlfriend (must show a documented, long-term relationship — in-person meetings, ongoing communication, and that both parties are legally free to be in that relationship)
- Children (of any age) and their accompanying spouse
- Parents and their accompanying spouse
- Siblings and their accompanying spouse
Visas may also be granted, on a more case-by-case basis, to:- Nieces, nephews, and grandchildren under 18 traveling to Denmark on holiday unaccompanied by an adult
- Close acquaintances of a Danish citizen who previously worked abroad for a Danish company
- Individuals accompanying an elderly or unwell family member

The host must confirm the visit is expected (the Immigration Service recommends, but does not require, using invitation form VU2), must generally have a permanent residence in Denmark, and must normally be a Danish citizen or resident.
If you are applying with a relationship outside these categories (for example, a friend hosting you with no family tie), your application will be assessed on whether your ties to the Philippines are strong enough that you're likely to return home before your visa expires. A strong, well-documented Schengen travel history with no prior visa violations works in your favor here.
Important nuance:These group classifications apply specifically to guidance under the "Private visits and tourist visits" visa category via the Danish Immigration Service. Some Filipino applicants have successfully applied and received Denmark tourist visas as independent travelers (hotel-based, no host) — but as a Group 3 national, this is not the default expectation, and such applications may face more scrutiny or be more likely to require additional justification of your intent to return home. What Are the Requirements for Filipinos to Get a Denmark Schengen Visa?

Applications of minors must be signed by their legal guardian.
After completion of the Application Form, you will be directed to proceed to payment of the Visa Fee. You will be provided with a unique reference number necessary for booking the appointment. You can only schedule your appointment 24 hours after visa fee payment.

1. When should I apply for a visa?
Apply no earlier than 6 months before your travel date, and no later than 15 days before your planned departure. We recommend applying at least 2 to 3 months in advance to allow buffer time for processing.
2. How long is the visa valid for?
Your visa validity depends on the duration and type of visa granted by the Embassy. A standard tourist visa is typically valid for the requested duration of stay, up to a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. Multiple-entry visas may be granted if you have a strong travel history.
3. Can my visa be extended while I'm in the Schengen Area?
Schengen visas can only be extended in exceptional circumstances (e.g., humanitarian reasons, force majeure). Extensions are not guaranteed and must be applied for at the relevant authority in the country you're in.
4. Can I submit my application without an appointment?
No. As of July 2025, all appointments must be booked online through the VFS Global website. Walk-ins are no longer allowed
5. Is visa approval guaranteed?
No. Visa approval is at the sole discretion of the Embassy. The best way to maximize your chances is to submit complete, well-organized documents that clearly demonstrate your intent to return to the Philippines.
6. What if I'm outside the Philippines? How can I apply?
If you are residing in another country, you must apply at the Czech Republic Embassy or VFS Global center with jurisdiction over your area of residence. If you are a long-term resident in the Philippines (non-Filipino), you may apply at the Manila Embassy only if you have been residing in the Philippines for at least 2 years.
